The Health Promotion Administration (HPA), of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, TAIWAN, has officially launched the 2026 Health Examination Program for Yu-Cheng patients. This initiative underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to caring for individuals affected by the 1979 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)-contaminated rice bran oil incident. Eligible participants are being notified through local public health bureaus and are encouraged to follow the five simple steps to schedule their annual health examinations. Through physiological and psychological assessments, participants can actively take charge of their health and build a better shield for their lives.

Comprehensive Health Monitoring and Holistic Support

Under the Yu Cheng Patients Health Care Services Act, the government provides fully subsidized annual health examinations, outpatient co-payment waivers, and reductions in hospitalization expenses for the first-generation Yu-Cheng patients.

The 2026 health examination program is specially tailored to address the long-term health needs of Yu-Cheng patients. In addition to routine metabolic assessments, comprehensive blood tests, and electrocardiography (ECG), the program includes abdominal ultrasonography and chest radiography to facilitate the early identification of potential health concerns. Furthermore, a quantitative fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is provided to safeguard gastrointestinal health.

Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, the program incorporates the Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS-5) for psychological assessment.

Participants requiring additional emotional support may be referred to the Holistic Care Center for Yu-Cheng Patients, where professional counseling and supportive services are available.

Five Simple Steps to Access Health Examination Services

The examination process has been designed to be accessible and convenient. Participants can complete their health examinations under the guidance of professional medical institutions by following these five steps:

1. Select a Designated Medical Institution Review the official list of designated healthcare facilities enclosed with the notification letter and select the most suitable provider.
   2. Schedule an Appointment Contact the selected facility by telephone or online reservation system to arrange an appointment at a convenient time.
   3. Prepare Required Documents Bring a National Health Insurance (NHI) card, national identification card, and health examination notification letter on the day of the appointment.
   4. Complete the Examination Healthcare professionals will guide participants through all required screening procedures.
   5. Review Examination Results Attend the follow-up consultation to discuss results and receive recommendations from healthcare providers regarding any necessary health management measures.
